Larvanem can be used for biological control of weevil larvae, beetles and caterpillars in a wide range of crops.
How it works
The nematodes penetrate the pest and release symbiotic bacteria into the pest’s body cavity. These bacteria convert the host tissue into a food source, whereby the nematodes feed, develop and reproduce inside the host. This kills the pest within a few hours or days of infection.
Preparation
- Remove the sachets from the box and keep them at room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Empty the contents of the sachets into a bucket containing at least 2 litres of water per sachet (water temperature: 15-20°C).
- Shake well and soak for 5 minutes.
- Re-mix and pour the contents of the bucket into a half-filled spray tank (unless tank mixed with a compatible product).
- The tank mixture must be continuously agitated (e.g. by means of a recirculation pump).
- Fill the spray tank with the required amount of water.
- If tank mixing with a compatible product, add Larvanem at the end in a completely filled tank.
- Apply directly after preparation of the solution
It can be applied using a watering can, a compressed air sprayer, an irrigation system, a knapsack sprayer or a power sprayer. To avoid blockages, all filters should be removed, especially if they are smaller than 0.3 mm (50 mesh).
The dose of Larvanem is usually 250 000 to 500 000 nematodes per m² (2.5 to 5 billion/ha).
The timing and frequency depend on the pest species and the growing environment (relative humidity, soil moisture and temperature).
